## Before Starting

Before setting up [Xporter](https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/891368/xporter-export-issues-from-jira?tab=overview&hosting=cloud), it's recommended to gather input from your team regarding usage and preferences.

We suggest you discuss the following points before you begin [installing and configuring Xporter](https://docs.getxporter.app/space/XPORTERCLOUD/558863/Xporter+for+Jira+Cloud+Installation):

- Which metrics should be present in reports?
- What is the correct project organization for the team?
- Should there be permission schemas set up?
- Should Xporter settings be set up on a project level?

> ### Configuring Templates
>
> First, you need to determine which [templates](https://docs.getxporter.app/space/XPORTERCLOUD/528515/Exercise+2+-+How+to+Manage+Templates) will be used. This can be done at the project level and the global level.
>
> Once the installation is complete, you only need a template to start exporting some Jira Issues.
>
> Navigate to the *Templates* section in the left menu (Figure 1 - 2), where you'll find the [templates store](https://store.getxporter.app/?platf=JIRACLOUD&sort=1&order=desc) (Figure 1 - 4).
>
> ![Figure 1 - Template store](media://3cffef51-d355-4072-974f-89eac3b824d6)
>
> Here, you can:
>
> - Add document templates based on your reporting needs (Figure 1 - 3).
> - Search for and obtain templates that can include dynamic fields and variables pulling data from Jira (Figure 1 - 1).
> - Download, edit, delete and/or set a template as default (Figure 1 - 6), after clicking the gear icon (Figure 1 - 5) on the corresponding template.

> #### Template Scope
>
> You can define the scope of your template to match your needs. To do this, next to the desired template, click the gear icon (Figure 1 - 5), and then select *Edit* (Figure 1 - 6). This will open a modal (Figure 2).
>
> ![Figure 2 - Edit template](media://c238321a-f26f-47c0-993b-56340a20e568)
>
> Here, you can:
>
> - Insert the template name (mandatory field; Figure 2 - 1).
> - Write a description (Figure 2 - 2).
> - Add scopes (Figure 2 - 3). For the first export, the *Single Export* scope will be most appropriate.
> - Upload files (Figure 2 - 4).
> - Check the advanced options (Figure 2 - 5).
>
> Once you’re done, click the *Update* button (Figure 2 - 6), and you're ready to create your first report.
